Exploring Edmonton Disc Golf; Profile of Tim Plamondon
Edmonton, AB — Bringing determination and excitement to Alberta’s disc golf scene, Best Version Media delves deep into his athleticism within disc golf.
Tim Plamondon has always been athletic but wasn’t always a disc golf player. Disc golf, for those that don’t know, is a sport similar to golf. However, it doesn’t use a golf club and small golf balls. Instead, this sport utilizes frisbees or flying discs.
“Disc golf requires the focus and precision of ball golf, the athleticism and technique of baseball, and the competitiveness of hockey,” Plamondon explains, “it takes the best elements of each sport and brings them together in a way that feels unique while providing an exceptionally supportive community.”
His first game was an unintentional surprise. Back in 2016, he was introduced to the sport with a friend without intending to. Initially, they would play soccer and golf in rundle park, only to find that it was scheduled at a different time than they had planned.
“When we arrived, it was communicated that soccer golf was at a specific time, which was not. The person mentioned that there was a disc golf course down the hill,” explains Plamondon. “I just happened to have a couple of Aerobie Flying Rings in my trunk, so we went to the course and played.”
A happy accident led to a passionate love for the sport. Both were instantly hooked on the game. Within a couple of days, they had already started their equipment sets. Soon they were playing 3 to 4 rounds a day.
“From there I joined the league, started playing tournaments, and adopted the lifestyle!” He said.
Fast forward to the present, he’s adopted the position of the president of the Edmonton Disc Golf Association. In this role, he can use his love and passion for the sport to contribute to the sport’s open and inclusive community. The Edmonton Disc Golf Association (EDGA) is a volunteer organization. Each volunteer is dedicated to promoting, assisting, and creating opportunities that help the public enjoy the sport of disc golf.
“I wish I could say I was a professional. Unfortunately, I am just an amateur. But I will say as a serious, competitive disc golfer, I love the balance of competitiveness and fun the sport brings,” Plamondon continues.
According to the Professional Disc Golf Association, he’s considered a professional member with a rating of 884 and 2 major career events. In his most recent game of the Falcon’s flight 12, presented by gander disc golf, he scored 67 in the first round, 68 and 72 in the following second and third rounds.
From a simple and accidental game of disc golf in 2016, Plamondon started a lifelong love of the sport.
